During the War, Teddy participated in several battle campaigns in the Pacific theatre of operations. As the Pasadena Showcase House of Design enters its 59th year, it’s returning to a familiar setting. Thank you for choosing to dine at Roseville’s oldest family owned restaurant with a long reputation for quality food, service and value. Established on October 6, 1958, House of Wong has a unique niche among Chinese restaurants in that the menu offers an extensive selection of quality American, Chinese and Italian entrees.
“I really feel like the dining room is a forgotten room,” says the designer, who set out to prove how vital the space is to a home. The room is anchored by a Riva 1920 table made with the wood of a 50,000-year-old Kauri tree, which Levine surrounded with seating for 12. Another seating area with views of the garden was designed for more intimate dining, games, or meetings, and it’s illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier. At the far end of the room, Levine installed a lush purple sofa with cocktail tables, creating the perfect spot for drinks, dessert, or relaxing with a cup of coffee.
The drinks menu is predictably extensive with plenty of hot and cold options, while the food menu includes appetizers, noodles, and popular set meals. This stinky tofu specialist serves its signature wares hot from the fryer and in a shallow pool of sweetish soy sauce. Also tasty is the “mushroom sliced pork rice,” a sweet and savory braise punched up with pickled mustard greens and a hard boiled egg.

Every hot pot is prepared using the same master broth, but the level of spice and ingredients (beef, lamb, kimchi, fish balls, vegetables, tofu, etc.) can be adjusted according to diners’ preferences.
